El archipiélago de Chiloé está localizado en la zona sur de Chile, entre los paralelos 41° y 43° de latitud sur. Comprende una isla principal, la isla Grande de Chiloé, y un gran número de islas e islotes menores. El archipiélago tiene una superficie de 9181 km² y contaba con una población total de 168 185 personas en el año 2017.1​

Administrativamente pertenece a la provincia de Chiloé (con excepción de las islas Desertores, que pertenecen a Palena, y la Isla Doña Sebastiana, que pertenece a Llanquihue), en la región de Los Lagos. En el archipiélago hay diez comunas: Ancud, Castro, Chonchi, Curaco de Vélez, Dalcahue, Puqueldón, Queilén, Quellón, Quemchi y Quinchao.

A section that once braided out with shallow and deep-water settings, is now home to long deep runs that where dug out to create habitat for species of trout that where introduced to the river. This has helped trout find refuge in the deep runs, but it has become a challenge for anglers to access these giants in high flows.

El Muelle del Alma, mejor conocido como Muelle de las Almas, es una escultura chilena construida el año 2005 por el artista Marcelo Orellana Rivera,1​ localizada al sur del poblado de Cucao en la comuna de Chonchi, archipiélago de Chiloé. Está emplazada en una propiedad privada situada al sur de la punta Pirulil, lugar que sirve de paso al otro mundo para las almas de los muertos según las versiones modernas de la leyenda chilota de las ánimas de Cucao.2​

Descripción
La escultura se sitúa en la costa occidental de la Isla Grande de Chiloé en punta Pirulil, en el extremo sur de la bahía de Cucao, a 10,4 kilómetros al sur de la aldea del mismo nombre y cerca de la localidad de Rahue. Fue elaborada por Orellana como proyecto de tesis y financiada gracias a un Fondart. El proyecto también contó con el apoyo de la Municipalidad de Chonchi y el parque nacional Chiloé, ubicado en las inmediaciones de la obra.1​

Elaborado con maderas naturales, el muelle está inspirado en la mitología chilota de las ánimas de Cucao, almas de personas fallecidas que llegan hasta Pirulil para, con desesperación y congoja, solicitar al balsero Tempilcahue, que las lleve a un lugar de descanso. La escultura está proyectada en forma ascendente, «invocando al más allá».
