El archipiélago de Chiloé está localizado en la zona sur de Chile, entre los paralelos 41° y 43° de latitud sur. Comprende una isla principal, la isla Grande de Chiloé, y un gran número de islas e islotes menores. El archipiélago tiene una superficie de 9181 km² y contaba con una población total de 168 185 personas en el año 2017.1​

Administrativamente pertenece a la provincia de Chiloé (con excepción de las islas Desertores, que pertenecen a Palena, y la Isla Doña Sebastiana, que pertenece a Llanquihue), en la región de Los Lagos.
